It is a Peruvian waltz, which was very popular musical genre in Spanish-speaking America, in the 1930s - 1950s.
Almost twenty years later, during a Latin American concert tour, Edith Piaf heard the song in a recording from 1953, performed by Alberto Castillo.
Subsequent to Piaf's hit, the original song, in Spanish, became a hit once again, but this time, under the title "Amor de mis amores"
